About Us

"Annam Brahma" means "food is divine" in Sanskrit and is the driving force behind
"Chutney Joe's" culture and concept.
At Chutney Joe's, we focus on hospitality and quality food cooked and served with
devotion.
Almost all Indian restaurants offer "Americanized Indian food" in "ethnic Indian
ambience" at exorbitant prices. The owner of Chutney Joe's, Vijay Puniani, wanted
to change that.
The concept behind Chutney Joe's is to offer "home-style Indian food" in a “modern
American ambience” at reasonable prices.
In 1974, Vijay opened an upscale Indian restaurant just a few blocks away from the
U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India. His restaurant was frequented by American and
foreign dignitaries. In 1978, Vijay left the country of his birth and arrived in
the U.S. with his wife and two daughters.
Once in the U.S. he briefly worked for a restaurant before branching out into investments
and real estate development. He built a small fortune in the real estate business.
However, Vijay's passion for food never died, and with encouragement from his family
and friends, the concept of Chutney Joe's was born.
Chutney Joe's brings authentic Indian cuisine to the "fast-casual" platform. Combining
a slow-cook process with fast service, Chutney Joe's aims to correct the errors
of typical Indian restaurants in America.
We're Unique
Most Indian restaurants combine pre-boiled meats and vegetables with their generic
base sauce to create many dishes known as a "Short Order Cooking." at CHUTNEY JOE'S,
We do not use any prepared sauce or pre-boiled meats and vegetables.
We cook every dish using our house blend of spices and herbs over a long period
of time. This cooking process produces its own unique sauce resulting in a full
range of flavors.
